Almost all communication cables consist of
"Twisted-Pair" wires in some way. A Cat-5 cable, as seen in this
picture, has 4 "Twisted-Pairs". Each pair is identified by it's
unique color code.
There are other sizes and uses of "Twisted-Pair" cables. These cables can range from as small as 2 pair up to 2400 pair or even larger. Major telephone companies use large "Twisted-Pair" cable as feeder cables through neighborhoods and large office building. These cables are also used as "Cross-Connects" to connect several communication closets, facilities or buildings together.
